Braised Swiss Chard

 

Braised swiss chard

Swiss chard is naturally high in sodium, with 78 mg. of sodium per ¼ cup boiled chard. It is loaded with vitamins and minerals, so just cook it without salt, using this tasty recipe.

4 servings: 98 mg. sodium per serving

2 teaspoons healthy oil
1 cup thinly sliced onion
1 large clove garlic, minced
10 ounces Swiss chard leaves, chopped after removing hard stems
1 Tablespoon fresh lemon juice
1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Prep. Instructions

1. Combine onion and garlic in a bowl.
2. Have all other ingredients on hand.

Cooking Instructions

1. Heat oil in a 10 inch skillet over medium low heat. Add onions and garlic. Cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly.

2. Add chopped Swiss chard. Stir to combine. Cover. Turn heat to low and simmer for 8 to 10 minutes, until chard is wilted, stirring occasionally.

3. Remove cover. Add lemon juice and pepper. Stir to combine. Heat through. Serve.
